Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best lacrosse training app for kids?
Workplay is a free IOS app built specifically for youth lacrosse players, using computer vision to automatically track wall ball and shooting reps without any extra hardware. It turns solo practice into a game with streaks, challenges, and a leveling playing character, so kids stay motivated to keep training between practices.
It's designed for players who want structure and visible progress without needing a coach or partner present.
Is Workplay free to use?
Yes! Workplay is currently free to download and use on IOS.
How does Workplay track reps?
Workplay uses your Iphone or Ipad's camera to watch and automatically count each pass or shot in real time. It distinguishes right-hand and left-hand reps so players can improve both.
No sensors, wearables, or extra equipment are required, simply set up your phone facing the wall, rebounder, or cage and start practicing.
How is Workplay different than just counting reps manually?
Manual rep counting relies on the player's own honesty and attention, and it produces no record log to look back on. Workplay's computer vision counts automatically and logs every session into a virtual history, so progress is measurable and verifiable over weeks and months, not just remembered remembered anecdotally.
The gamification layer (streaks, coins, leaderboards) also adds motivation structure that manual counting doesn't provide on its own.
Can coaches and teams use Workplay together?
Yes! Players can join a team inside the app, and teams get their own leaderboard along a global leaderboard as well. This lets coaches see relative activity across their roster and gives teammates a way to push each other through friendly competition.
How does Workplay keep kids motivated to practice?
Workplay turns rep-counting into a game. Players earn points build daily streaks, complete challenges, and level up a player's character as they log practice time. It also shows a visual timeline of past sessions so players and parents can see consistency and progress over time.
The goal is to make wall ball and shooting feel like progress instead of a chore.
What is the Shotmaster 3000 and do I need to use it to use Workplay?
The Shotmaster3000 is an optional radar gun accessory, sold separately, that pairs with Workplay app to measure shot speed and shooting reps. It's not required to use Workplay, the core app rep tracking works fully on its own.
It's an add-on specifically for players who want to keep track of their shooting performance in addition to wall ball features.
Do you need a partner or coach to practice with Workplay?
No. Workplay is built specifically for solo practice. The app's computer vision replaces the need for a second person to count or watch reps, so a player can train along against their rebounder or cage and still get accurate tracking.
Coaches can still get involved by creating teams and viewing player activity, but it isn't required to use the app.
Is Workplay worth it for a 12 year old lacrosse player?
Workplay is built for exactly this age range, youth players old enough to practice independently but who benefit from structure and motivation. The gamified streaks, leaderboard, and leveling system are designed to keep younger players engaged with repetitive wall ball and shooting drills that would otherwise feel like a chore.
Because it's free and requires no extra equipment, it's a low-risk way to see if habits stick.
